Bensalem, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a non-conference road doubleheader on Saturday afternoon just outside of Philadelphia against the host Holy Family University Tigers, as UB won game one, 13-5, in five innings, and fell in the nightcap, 6-3. Bridgeport is now an even 11-11 on the season, and the Tigers are now 1-19.
In the opener, the UB broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning on the way to the victory.
Freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had two hits and three runs batted in game one, and sophomore Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) also drove in three for the winners.
Sophomore Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) and Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.) plus junior Stephanie Dean (Old Lyme, Conn.), each had two hits for Bridgeport in the victory.
In the pitching circle, senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) picked up her fifth win of the season working a complete game in which she fanned four.
In the nightcap, senior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.), sophomore Samantha Sabor and freshman Sarah Silver (Vernon, Conn.), each had one run batted in.
Up next, the Purple Knights are schedule to host Southern Connecticut State University on Monday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader slated for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
