Softball Continues Hot Start To 2017 Season With 5-0 Win Over Clarion
Purple Knights Now 7-2 As Kaitlyn Lajoie Fires A One-Hitter With 12 Strikeouts
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team raised its season record to 7-2 on Monday afternoon with a 5-0 win over Clarion University (1-10). Bridgeport's second contest of the day versus Philadelphia University was rained out.
Versus Clarion, senior, pitcher Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.), this week's East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, continued her hot start to the 2017 season by tossing a one-hit shutout in which she struck out 12 batters to move her season record to 4-0.
At the plate, senior Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) hit a two-run homer, and sophomore Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) had two hits and two runs batted in.
Junior Gabryelle Dubois (Carlisle, Iowa) and sophomore Janaya Young (Orange, Conn.) also had two hits apiece for the winners on Monday.
On Tuesday, the UB softball team continues it Sprig Break sojourn to Florida with evening games against St. Michael's and Franklin Pierce.
