UB Softball Earns First Conference Tournament Appearance Since 2008
No. 4 Seed UB Will Face N.o. 1 Seed NYIT On Thursday
New Haven, Conn.-While the news on the diamond was not great with a single-game, 6-2, loss at Southern Connecticut State University, the new off it was euphoric for the University of Bridgeport softball team, as the Purple Knights will be heading to the conference championship tournament for the first time since 2008. Having completed their 2016 regular season conference schedule on Saturday, Bridgeport were forced to scoreboard watch on Sunday needing two wins by NYIT over Queens (N.Y.) College to claim the fourth and final spot in the 2016 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament which NYIT will host this coming week from Thursday through Saturday, and the Bears defeated Queens, 5-1 and 6-1 to give UB the final ECC Tournament spot. NYIT and Bridgeport will meet in the opener for both teams in the 2016 ECC Championship on Thursday at a time that will be determined on Monday.
At SCSU on Sunday, freshman Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla,) had two hits and knocked in one runs, and junior Kerri Agrela (Smithfield, R.I.) had her team's other RBI on the day for the Purple Knights who are now 19-28 overall.
Up next, the UB softball team will close out its regular season schedule at Nyack College with a Tuesday doubleheader slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
