Bridgeport, Conn.-It was a tough home and East Coast Conference opener for the University of Bridgeport softball team on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights lost both end of double header to the visiting Mercy College Mavericks, 9-0, in game one and 10-1, in game two. Both contests were shortened to five innings.
UB is now 5-11 overall and 0-2 in the ECC. Mercy evens its season mark at 7-7. And the Mavericks are 2-0 in conference play.
In the opening game, Mercy's McCauley Cushman fired a no-hitter in which she struck out 14 and walked no one.
In game two, UB's Kaila Crandall (Sr., Little Rock, Calif.) had two hits and drove in her team's only run of the day.
The UB softball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon at LIU Post for an east Coast Conference doubleheader.
