Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team opened its 2015 season with a pair of walk-offs on Thursday defeating Bentley University, 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning to start the year and dropping a 1-0 decision to East Stroudsburg University by giving up a run in the bottom of the seventh to close the day.
Against Bentley, sophomore Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) drove in the winning run with a two-out RBI single. Junior Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) tied the game at 3-3 earlier in the seventh.
UB senior Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) blasted a pair of solo home runs for the Purple Knights in the 2015 season opener.
Sophomore Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) picked up the win in relief in game one working 4.2 innings of scoreless ball during which she allowed on three hits.
Versus East Stroudsburg, newcomer, junior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) was the hard luck loser in the circle allowing only one run in the bottom of the seventh inning as she fired a complete game giving up only six hits while fanning two.
On Friday, the Purple Knights will continue their Spring Trip in Florida with games versus Bentley and American International College.
