Softball Closes Out 2014 Season With Doubleheader Split At AIC
Purple Knights Increase Season Win Total For Fourth Straight Year
Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split its 2014 season finale at American International College on Sunday afternoon losing game one, 3-2, and salvaging the split with a 7-4 victory in the nightcap. UB closes out 2014 with a 19-29 record which marks the fourth straight season the Purple Knights have increased their win total form the previous season. AIC is now 11-27 overall.
In the opener, the host Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off with the victory. In game one, junior Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) and sophomore Imane Alou Issa (Berchem, Belgium), each had two hits, and Phillips and senior Mallory Streat (Guilford, Conn.) drove in UB's runs.
In game two, junior Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Junior Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) knocked in two runs, and senior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who pitched a complete game in the opener, drove in a run with a hit as pinch hitter in her only plate appearance of the season in her final game in a UB uniform.
Freshman pitcher Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) fired a complete game in game two to earn the win and finish her first season in a Bridgeport uniform with a 10-6 record.
