Road Proves Unkind To Softball Team As UB Losses Two At Molloy On Tuesday
UB Wraps Up 2014 ECC Schedule At Mercy On Wednesday
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-It was a tough Tuesday afternoon on Long Island for the University of Bridgeport softball team, as the Purple Knights last both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Molloy College losing game one, 9-1, in five innings, and dropping a tough 3-2 decision in the nightcap in eight innings. With the two losses, Bridgeport is now 18-26 overall and 11-15 in conference play. The Lions are now 23-18 overall and 15-7 in conference action.
In the opener, UB was limited to only one hit, a double by junior Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.), and freshman Ashley Hessler (Pawtucket, R.I.) drove in the Purple Knights' lone run.
In game two, Bridgeport grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI-single by sophomore Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) and a run-scoring Molloy miscue. The Lions tied the score at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of sixth inning and won the game in extra innings by scoring with two outs in the eighth inning.
Next up for the UB softball team is the squad's 2014 ECC finale at Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Doubleheader action is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
