Softball Drops A Pair At NYIT
Team Back In Action At Mercy On Tuesday
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team had a tough Saturday afternoon on Long Island, as the Purple Knights were swept in an East Coast Conference doubleheader by the host NYIT Bears, dropping game one, 7-5, and falling in game two, 5-3. The Purple Knights are now 16-20 overall and 9-9 in the ECC. NYIT raises its overall mark to 11-17, and the Bears are 6-12 in conference action.
In the opener, junior Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) crushed her team-leading sixth home run of the season and drove in three runs, and juniors Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) and Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.), each had two hits.
In game two, NYIT jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the first inning, but the Purple Knights rallied to tie the contest at 3-3 after the top of the fifth inning, as Phillips, Ashley Hessler (Fr., Pawtucket, R.I.) and Katelyn Wall (Jr., Madison, Conn.), each grove in a run. Hessler, Greiesinger and sophomore Imane Alou Issa (Berchem, Belgium) each picked up two hits in the nightcap.
Up next, the UB softball team will look to get back in the win column with an ECC doubleheader at Mercy College on Tuesday afternoon.
