UB Softball Sees Five-Game Winning Streak Halted By Number 23 LIU Post
Purple Knights Falls Twice To Pioneers, 3-1 & 9-0
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team saw its five game winning streak snapped by number 23 LIU Post on Tuesday afternoon in Seaside Park, as the visiting Pioneers swept an East Coast Conference twinbill, winning game one, 3-1, and taking game two, 9-0. The Purple Knights are now 10-13 overall and 5-2 in conference play. LIU Post raises its overall record to 17-3 and remains unbeaten in the ECC at 4-0.
In game one, junior Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) drove in UB's lone run with a seventh inning fielder's choice, and classmate Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) had a double. Sophomore Jennine Walsh (Langley, B.C., Canada) pitched well but took the loss in the opener working 6.1 innings in which she allowed three runs (only two earned) on seven hits with one strike out and no walks.
In game two, freshman Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) had two hits for the Purple Knights.
The UB softball team is back in action at Queens (N.Y.) College on Thursday afternoon for an ECC doubleheader that is schedule to begin at 3:00 p.m.
