Old Westbury, N.Y. – It was a tale of two games for the University of Bridgeport softball team on Friday afternoon, as the Purple Knights continued a busy week of action by playing their fourth doubleheader in five days at NYIT. UB lost game one, 2-0, in a classic pitchers' duel, and in game two, Bridgeport posted offensive numbers that have been seldom seen in school history, as the team banged out 24 hits and clubbed four home runs on its way to a 13-10 win an a split of the ECC twinbill.
UB is now 9-14 overall and 3-6 in the ECC. NYIT is now 7-17 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
In game two, sophomore Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) went 5-for-5 with three RNI and two home runs. Senior Stephanie Pearce (Surrey, England) and grad student Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) also homered for the winners.
Freshman Jennine Walsh (Langley, B.C., Canada) raised her season mark to 5-4 in the pitching circle as she got the win in game two, and junior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who was the hard-luck loser in game one, recorded the final out of game two to notch the save.
