Three-Hit Shutout By Tiffany Irrera Leads Softball To Split With St. Thomas Aquinas
Purple Knights Now 6-10 Overall And 1-3 In The ECC
Stratford, Conn.-Junior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fired a three-hit shutout in which she struck out nine and walked zero to help lead the University of Bridgeport softball team to a 6-0 win over the St. Thomas Aquinas Lady Spartans in game two of an East Coast Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The win in game two salvaged a split for the Purple Knights on the day, as STAC won the opener, 7-6. UB is now 6-10 overall and 1-3 in conference action. The Lady Spartans are now 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.
Graduate student Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) was the offensive star for UB in the nightcap, as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in.
Wojcik also knocked in two run in the opener, and sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had three hits and also drove in two runs for Bridgeport in game one, as the Purple Knights outhit STAC, 11-5.
The UB softball team is back in action on Monday afternoon when they host American International College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch at DeLuca Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
