Softball Edged By Dowling In 2013 ECC Opener
UB Falls 6-5 In Game One And 7-2 In Five Innings In Game Two
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team opened its 2013 East Coast Conference schedule at Dowling College on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights were edged by the Golden Lions who scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one, 6-5, and Dowling also won game two, 7-2, in a game that called after five innings due to darkness. UB is now 5-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play. DC ups its overall mark to 11-3, and the Golden Lions are 2-0 in the ECC.
In game one for Bridgeport, sophomore Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and four runs batted in. Classmate Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with UB's other RBI in the opener.
In game two, Blair led off the game with a home run, and graduate student Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) drove in a run.
The Purple Knights are next scheduled to be in action on Thursday, March 28 when the team is scheduled to play its 2013 home opener at DeLuca Field in Stratford versus St. Thomas Aquinas College. First pitch of game one is slated for 3:00 p.m.
