Softball Falls Twice To St. Thomas Aquinas
Purple Knights Still Searching For First ECC WIns
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team was swept in a home East Coast Conference doubleheader by the St. Thomas Aquinas College Lady Spartans on a wind-swept Sunday afternoon in Seaside Park, as STAC pushed a run across in the top of the seventh to win game one, 3-2, and completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap. With the two losses, UB is now 5-15 overall, and the Purple Knights remain winless in conference play at 0-6. STAC evens its overall record at 9-9, and the Lady Spartans are 4-2 in conference play.
In game one, Bridgeport junior Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) had an RBI, and freshman Kelly Olencki (Milford, Conn.) contributed a double.
Freshman Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the tough luck loser in the opener, as she went the distance allowing only five hits and only one of STAC's three runs was earned. Tiffany also struck out seven and walked only one during her seven innings in the circle.
In game two, freshman Katie Caudullo (Scranton, Pa.) and sophomore Alitha Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) each had a double for the Purple Knights.
Freshman Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.) took the loss in game two, as she fired a complete game in which she allowed only one earned run on six hits. Shill also struck out four Lady Spartans on the day.
UB will look to snap a nine-game losing streak at NYIT on Tuesday afternoon.
