Bridgeport Swimmers Wrap Up Successful Weekend Of Action With Sweeps of Fairfield And Mt. St. Mary
Both Teams Go 3-0 In Dual Meet Action In Less Than 24 Hours
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams wrapped up a busy and successful weekend on Saturday afternoon at home in the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium, as each team swept a double-dual meet from Fairfield University and Mt. St. Mary College. The UB men topped the Stags, 62-32, and defeated Mt. St. Mary, 68-24; while the Bridgeport women outscored the Stags, 61-33 and bested Mt. St. Mary, 71-23.
On the men's side, seniors Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) and Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) each won two races. Matsuyama won the 50 Free (24.64) and 100 Butterfly (58.28), and Sangines took first in the 200 Free (1:54.54) and the 400 Free (4:08.21).
For the UB women. three swimmers won two events, as junior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) won the 800 Free (9:08.09) and the 400 Free (4:34.91), senior Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) took first in the 50 Free (28.06) and the 100 Back (1:09.91) plus sophomore Clara Mico Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) captured top honors in the 200 IM (2:31.45) and the 100 Butterfly (1:08.71).
Up next, the UB women's team will travel to LIU Post next Saturday afternoon for a dual meet, and the Bridgeport men will have a bit of a break returning to the water at the BU Terrier Invitational in Boston beginning on November 18th.
