Safronczyk Claims Back-To-Back 100-yard Breaststroke National Crowns, and Freshman Oscar Pereiro WIns National Title In 100-yard Backstroke
San Antonio, Tex.-It was a great night in the pool for the University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams on Friday night at the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship Meet being held at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, as the Purple Knights won two men's national titles and earned All-American honors on the women's side.
For the UB men, junior Piotr Safronczyk (Bialystok, Poland) won his second consecutive NCAA Division II title in the 100-yard Breaststroke winning this year's event with a time of 53.05.
Freshman Oscar Pereiro (Aruza, Spain) joined Safronczyk as a Division II National Champion on Friday night as he captured the men's 100-yard Backstroke in a time of 47.59.
The Bridgeport men sit in seventh place overall with 168 points after three days at the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship Meet, having now won two individual and two relay national titles.
On the women's side, freshman Sonia Arau (Barcelona Spain) finished third in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 4:55.11 to earn All-American honors in her second event at the 2011 NCAA Division II Nationals.
The UB women are in 22nd place with 30 points after three days of competition.
