Bio

Sam Joseph begins his second season at the University of Bridgeport as the assistant men’s basketball coach under head coach Mike Ruane. Joseph received his Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences in 2018 from UB. He led the Purple Knights 2017-18 team in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game, was also second in the conference with 70 three-point shots made, finished second in the conference and number 30in the country with 66 steals. He served as team captain last season of a squad completed the year with an overall record of 25-6 and led the country in forced turnovers. Bridgeport won the conference regular season title with a conference record of 17-1 and set the school record for longest winning streak at 16 games in a row. The team advanced to the ECC Championship Final and received an at-large bid to participate in the NCAA tournament. At the end of his senior campaign, Joseph was named First Team All-Conference, earned a spot on the ECC Men’s Basketball All-Tournament Team, and was selected Second Team All-Region accolades from the NABC.

In 2016-2017, Joseph broke the 20-point mark in eight games his first year with the Purple Knights. Joseph was tenth in the conference with 424 points, finished seventh in the league with 60 three-point shots made and fifth in the conference in steals. He was named to the Third Team All-Conference.

Joseph hails from Brooklyn, New York and played at Jamestown Community College prior to transferring to UB. In his only year at Jamestown, Joseph averaged 17.9 points 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. His best scoring game of the season came opening night where he scored 37 points on 14-23 shooting, including 7 of 10 from three-point range in a win over Corning CC. He broke the 20-point mark in 12 of the Jayhawks’ 30 games. Joseph was First Team All-Region and named an NJCAA Division II All-American. From 2015-2018, Joseph scored 1,363 points, 184 steals and 203 made three-point shots.

Prior to joining the UB coaching staff, Joseph worked as a Sports Specialist for Asphalt Green, and a basketball strength and strength and conditioning trainer with the Brooklyn Youth Sports Club. His responsibilities as Assistant Men’s basketball coach include player development, assistance with recruiting, and analyze performances.
