Men's Basketball Falls Short at Holy Family, 81-70
Sam DeSouza and Tim Dawson combine for 41 points on 15-of-27 shooting.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Hitting the road for the first time in 10 days, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team dropped an 81-70 contest at Holy Family University on Saturday.
The Purple Knights' offense was largely supplied by the duo of Sam DeSouza and Tim Dawson. In fact, the UB twosome combined for nearly 60% of the team's points on Saturday.
DeSouza matched his season high with a team-high 22 points on an efficient 8-for-11 from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
Dawson, meanwhile, matched his own season high with 19 points—a total he has now scored in four different games this season. The senior guard also led the Purple Knights with a game-high four steals as he continues to rank second in the CACC in total takeaways (39) this year.
Dawson chipped in five assists as well, which was matched as a team high with classmate Jayden Iturmendi.
Senior D'Andre Collins served as UB's top rebounder on Saturday, equaling his own season-high with 10 boards.
As a team, the Purple Knights shot 24-of-68 (35.3%) from the field and 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range. Bridgeport hung tough on the glass against Holy Family, earning a 45-44 advantage in total rebounds.
The Tigers led by nine at halftime before stretching their lead to as high as 18 in the second half.
The Purple Knights trimmed the advantage to 78-70 with 1:33 left, but that would be as close as it would get.
