North Division-Leading Caldwell Tops Bridgeport Men, 78-71, In Hubbell Gym On Wednesday Night
Purple Knights Back In Action At Home On Saturday At 3 PM Versus Mercy College
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team got off to a quick start on Wednesday night jumping out to a 7-0 advantage over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division-leading Caldwell University in Hubbell Gym, but the Cougars came back to take a 33-29 halftime lead on their way to a 78-71 CACC victory. Bridgeport is now 10-13 overall and 6-9 in conference play. Caldwell, winners of eight straight games, are now 16-7 overall and 12-2 in the CACC.
The Purple Knights struggled on offense on Wednesday, as UB shot only 36.0 percent from the floor (27-of-75) on the evening.
Matt Turner (Grad., Trumbull, Conn.) led Bridgeport with 15 points on the night, and he was joined in double figures by seniors Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.) plus Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.), who each chipped in 13 points for the hosts.
Turner also led UB on the glass with seven rebounds.
UB junior Joshua Dennis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fell just shy of double figures in the game scorine nine points, and he also had six rebounds on the night.
Caldwell's Darnell Evans led all scorers in the game with 28 points, and he finished with a double-double pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Teammate Jarnel Racey dominated the paint for the Cougars blocking a whopping 10 shots in the contest.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will play its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., when the Mercy College Mavericks come to Hubbell Gym to continue the team's three-game homestand.
