UB Men Fall In Non-Conference Hoops Action At East Stroudsburg
Purple Knights Will Now CACC Play At Post On Wednesday Night
East Stroudsburg, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team (3-2) never led in the game, as the Purple Knights suffered their second straight defeat after opening the season with three consecutive wins falling in a non-conference contest at East Stroudsburg University, 106-84. With the win, ESU remains unbeaten on the season at 3-0.
Matt Turner (Grad., Trumbull, Conn.) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Bridgeport. He was joined in double figures by senior Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.) with 19 points. Williams also tied for the team lead in rebounding with classmate Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.)
Sophomore Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y.) had seven assists on the afternoon for the Purple Knights, plus he added a pair of steals.
East Stroudsburg was red-hot from the floor in Sunday's game hitting 58.8 percent (40-of-68) of its field goals, including knocking down 40.0 percent of its three-point shots.
UB connected on 44.2 percent (34-of-78) of its field goals but struggled from behind the three-point arc going 6-of-28 (21.4 %) and from the foul line going 10-of-19 (52.5 %) from the stripe.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team opens up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights travel up Route 8 to Waterbury, Connecticut to face local rival, Post University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. following the UB versus Post women's game.
