Men's Hoops Closes Out First Half On A 17-0 Run To Blitz AIC, 94-71, And Move To 3-0 On The Young Season
Five Purple Knights Reach Double-Digit Scoring And UB Wins The Battle On The Boards, 56-30
Springfield, Mass.-Holding a slim 27-26 lead with 7:19 to play in the first half, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team closed out the first 20 minutes of play on 17-0 run to take a 44-26 halftime lead, and the Purple Knights never looked back, as they cruised to a 94-71 road win over American International College on Tuesday night. With the win, UB is now 3-0 to begin the 2022-23 season, and AIC slips to 0-3 on the year.
On Tuesday, Bridgeport dominated the glass outrebounding the host Yellow Jackets by a whopping 56-30 margin. 29 of the Purple Knights boards came on the offensive end of play. UB also scored 32 points off 24 AIC turnovers on the night.
Five Bridgeport players reached double-digit scoring on Tuesday night led by senior Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.) who finished with 17 points and grabbed six rebounds on the evening.
Junior Ryo Kobayashi (Kanagawa, Japan) finished with 12 points for the winners, and classmate D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) finished just one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.
Seniors Malcom Moye (Windsor, Conn.) and Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.) rounded out the Bridgeport double-figure scorers, as they each netted 10 points, and Moye finished with a double-double grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds, plus Sumareh was strong on the backboard pulling down seven caroms of his own.
After playing three games in four days to start the season, the UB men's basketball team will now take a bit of a break before returning to the hardwood for the squad's next game which will come one week from tonight on Tuesday, November 22 at Mercy College. Game time in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. is set for 7:00 p.m.
