Win Keeps The Purple Knights Alive In Fight For Final ECC Playoff Spot
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team stayed in the fight for the final spot in this season's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament using a balanced offensive effort on Friday to post a 91-76 home conference win over the visiting D'Youville College. Saints. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 10-16 overall and 7-10 in the ECC. The Saints slip to 1-25 overall and 1-16 in conference play.
Five Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring in Friday's win led by sophomore D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.), who posted his first career double-double netting a career-high 19 points and tying his career-best in rebounds with 11 which led all players on the day.
Graduate student Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) and junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) each chipped in 18 points for UB.
Sophomore Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.) and junior Ali Samareh (Bronx. N.Y.) rounded out the UB five in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Sumareh fell just shy of his own double-double grabbing nine rebounds.
Freshman Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y.) had a fine floor game for the Purple Knights dishing off a game-high seven assists with no turnovers.
As team, Bridgeport shot 50.8 percent from the floor for the game, connecting on 33-of-65 shot attempts.
Chris Stineman led D'Youville with a game-high 20 points, as three Saints reached double figures.
Up next, the Purple Knights face a must win game versus Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday to close out the regular season if the Purple Knights hope to have a chance to reach the ECC Championship Tournament. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
