Big Second Half Lifts Host UDC To An ECC Men's Basketball Win Over The Purple Knights
Bridgeport Back In Action At Home On Saturday Afternoon Versus Staten Island
Washington, D.C.-After scoring a basketball at the halftime buzzer to take a 45-44 lead into the locker room, the host University of the District Columbia Firebirds opened the second half on a 13-0 to take 58-44 lead and never looked back, as UDC cruised to a 101-85 men's basketball win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Wednesday evening. The Firebirds outscored UB, 56-41, in the second half. Bridgeport is now 8-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play. UDC moves to 7-17 overall and 6-8 in the ECC.
Junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Bridgeport in scoring on Wednesday with 16 points. He was joined in double figures by sophomore Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.) with 13 points and graduate student Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) added 12 points.
Sophomore D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) led the Purple Knights' in rebounding grabbing seven boards.
UDC's Kenyon Stone led all scorers on the night and five Firebirds in double digits with 25 points for the winners.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will return to Hubbell Gym on Saturday afternoon and host the College of Staten Island in a conference tilt set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
