Men's Basketball Back In The Win Column With An 85-79 Road Victory Over Mercy
UB Returns To Action At Home Versus D'Youville On Wednesday Night
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon with an 85-79 road East Coast Conference win over the host Mercy College Mavericks. With the victory, UB is now 8-12 overall and 5-6 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 2-16 overall and 2-9 in conference action.
UB led by as many as 19 points in the first half and held a 14-point, 46-32, advantage at the half, but Mercy battled in the second the half outscoring the visitors, 47-39 over the final 20 minutes of play. The Purple Knights sealed the game by going 6-of-8 from the foul line over the final 42 seconds of action.
Junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Bridgeport in scoring on the day with a game-high 24 points.
Graduate student Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) netted a career-high 20 points for the winners and fell just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.
Freshman Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y.) rounded out the Purple Knights in double figures with 17, as he went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line, including going 6-of-6 in the final minute of action.
Sophomore D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) pulled down a team-high 11 boards for Bridgeport, and also chipped in nine points on the day.
James Taylor, Jr. led Mercy with 21 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team opens a two-game homestand by hosting East Coast Conference opponent, D'Youville College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
