Men's Basketball Earns Third Straight Victory With A 91-86 Triumph At Staten Island
Mason Williams Leads UB With A Career High 28 Points
Staten Island, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team overcame a slow start, as the Purple Knights trailed by 15 points, 22-7, just 8:32 into the first half of play on Saturday, but UB came back to post a 91-86 East Coast Conference victory over the host College of Staten Island Dolphins.
Bridgeport, winners of three straight games, are now 6-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play. CSI slips to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights dominated Saturday's game at the free throw line, as the visitors connected on 31-of-36 attempts from the charity stripe, including going 21-of-24 in the second half; while the Dolphins were just 5-of-7 from the foul line for the entire 40 minutes.
Junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) led four Bridgeport players in double figures on Saturday with a career-high 28 points.
Williams was joined in double digits by sophomore Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.), who went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line on the day, with 20 points, classmate Malcolm Moye (Jr., Hartford, Conn.) with 15 points and freshman Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y.), who led the team with nine assists, netted 10 points.
Moye grabbed a team-best and game-high 11 rebounds to recorded his second consecutive double-double.
Bryce Waterman led four Staten Island players in double-digit scoring with 23 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will play its final scheduled non-conference game of the season on Thursday, when the American International College Yellow Jackets are slated to come to Harvey Hubbell Gym. Game time in the Park City on Thursday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
