Purple Knights Rally To Notch A 74-70 ECC Men's Basketball Win Over UDC
UB Comes Back From Being Down As Many As 22 Points In The Second Half
Bridgeport, Conn.-The old adage that "it's not how you start, but how you finish" was in full effect for the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights missed their first 11 field goal attempts, as the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds raced out to leads of 13-0 and 24-3 in the first half and were up 54-32 with 16:25 to play in the second half, but UB managed to come back to notch a 74-70 East Coast Conference victory in Hubbell Gym on Wednesday night in the squad's first action of the 2022 calendar year. Bridgeport has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, as the Purple Knights move their overall record to 5-8 and their ECC mark to 3-2. UDC is now 3-12 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
With the scored tied a 70-70, UB junior Malcolm Moye (Hartford, Conn.) hit two free throws with 1:08 to play to give his team a lead which they never relinquished. Moye finished with a double-double scoring 10 points and grabbing a game-high and career-best 20 rebounds, which were split evenly 10-10 on the offensive and defensive backboards.
Sophomore Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.) had a fine all-around game for the winners finishing with a team-high 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Sophomore Ryo Kobayashi (Kanagawa, Japan) and junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the Bridgeport double-digit scorers, as the each finished with 13 points on the night.
Hartnel Haye led four Firebirds in double digits with 17 points.
Up next, the UB men's team will look to run its winning streak to three game on Saturday when the Purple Knights travel to the College of Staten Island for a 3:00 p.m. ECC tilt.
