Malcolm Moye Scores A UB Career-Best 30 Points For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team spotted the visiting Mercy College Mavericks the first eight points of the game, but the host Purple Knights stormed back to score a season-high 96 points, as UB defeated the Mavericks, 96-81, in East Coast Conference action on Sunday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. As a team, Bridgeport shot 58.8 percent from the floor for the game, connecting on 40-of-68 shots on the afternoon.
The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Purple Knights, who are now 4-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Mercy remains winless so far on the season at 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
Newcomer Malcolm Moye (Jr., Hartford, Conn.) led the Purple Knights in scoring netting a UB career-high 30 points. Moye fell just shy of a double-double grabbing nine rebounds.
Four teammates joined Malcolm in double figures for the winners, as sophomore Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.) had 14 points and graduate student Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia), junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) plus sophomore D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.), each had 12 points for the winners.
Zubac also had nine rebounds and blocked three shots, plus Dawson dished off a game-high six assists.
Brandon Williams led three Mercy players in double figures with a career-high 23 points.
Following the Holiday Break, the UB men's basketball team will return to the court on Thursday, December 30, when they host a non-conference game with local rival the University of New Haven. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
