Tough Shooting Night Spells Doom For Men's Basketball In Loss At Stonehill
UB Back In Action On Saturday Against Caldwell
Easton, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team got off to a hot start hitting four of its first five shots to race out to an 11-2 lead, but the Purple Knights went ice cold from then on, as UB fell to the host Stonehill College Skyhawks, 69-50, in non-conference action on Wednesday night in the team's first road game of the 2021-22 season. UB is now 1-2 on the young season. Stonehill ups its season mark to 2-1.
Bridgeport trailed only by five points at the half, 37-32, but the Purple Knights could only muster 18 points in the final 20 minutes of play, as they shot 27.3 percent from the floor. On the night, UB hit 17-of-52 field goals (32.7 %).
Stonehill dominated the game on the glass outrebounding Bridgeport, 43-28.
Junior Malcolm Moye (Hartford, Conn.) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 12 points. Three players, Mason Williams (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.), Tim Dawson (So., New Haven, Conn.) and classmate Ryo Kobayashi (Kanagawa, Japan), each had nine points on Wednesday.
Christopher Melis led the Skyhawks with 22 points off the bench, as he was a perfecr 9-for-9 from the floor, including one three-pointer, and 3-3 from the foul line.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team will face Caldwell University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Dominican College in Orangeburg, New York.
