Bridgeport Now 11-2 Overall And 3-0 In Conference Action
Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team ups its winning streak to seven games and remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play with an 85-77 road triumph over the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Friday night in Western New York. The Purple Knights raced out to a 15-0 lead to open the game, and for the second straight contest never trailed. Bridgeport is now 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the ECC. RWC slips to 3-12 overall, and the Redhawks are now 0-4 in conference play.
Friday's victory marks win number 380 in the illustrious, 20-year career of Bridgeport head coach Mike Ruane, and the 11-2 start is the best record after 13 games that UB has produced during Ruane's 20 years in the Park City. The 11-2 record is the program's best beginning to a season since the Purple Knights opened the 1990-91 campaign with a 13-2 record.
Senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) lead five UB players in double figures with 19 points on Friday, and he also had eight rebounds and four assists.
Classmate D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) finished with a double-double in the win scoring 14 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
Junior Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) with 14 points, senior Jose Pabon-Sanchez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a season-high 11 points and sophomore Jayden Iturmendi (York, Pa.) with 10 points rounded out the Purple Knights in double-digit scoring on Friday evening.
Robert Wesleyan's Armon Nasseri led all scorers in the game with 24 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team wraps up its trip to Western New York on Sunday afternoon with a key East Coast Conference game versus Daemen College. Game time in Amherst, N.Y. is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
