Men's Basketball Picks Up Fourth Win In A Row With Hard-Fought 83-77 Victory Over Queens (N.Y.) College
Hashem Abbas Leads UB Offense With A Career-High 23 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its fourth win a row and moved to 2-0 in the East Coast Conference with a hard-fought, 83-77, home win over Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon in the Park City. With the victory, UB is now 8-2 overall. QC slips to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the ECC.
Saturday's affair was back-and-forth contest that saw nine ties and 12 lead changes. UB and Queens were tied 41-41 at the half.
Junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) led the Purple Knights' offense on Saturday with a career-high 23 points, and he also finished with a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds.
Abbas was joined in double figures by senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) with 21 points, plus he grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals, and junior Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain) added 10 points, all of which came in the second half.
David Grady III led Queens with 17 points on the afternoon.
UB did an excellent job of taking care of the basketball on Saturday, as the Purple Knights committed only four turnovers which is the program's lowest total since Bridgeport had five miscues against St. Anselm on December 19, 2016.
Following the Holiday Break, the UB men's basketball team will return to action on Monday, December 30 when the Purple Knights host Dominican (N.Y.) College in Hubbell Gym. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
