Purple Knights Open 2019-20 ECC Men's Basketball Slate With A 105-78 Home Win Over UDC
Bridgeport Leads From Wire-To-Wire
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team opened its 2019-20 East Coast Conference schedule in fine style at home on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights led from wire-to-wire and eclipsed the 100-pont mark for the first time this season, as UB defeated the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 105-78, in Hubbell Gym. Bridgeport is now 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the ECC. UDC slips to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Six Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring on Wednesday led by junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) with 21 points off the UB bench, as he went 10-of-13 from the floor.
Senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) had a solid all-around game for the winners netting 16 points, as he went 4-of-8 from three-point range, dished off a team-high six assists, grabbed four rebounds and blocked a shot.
UB junior Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points for the winners and also had four assists and four steals.
Three Purple Knights, Nemanja Zubac (Jr., Becka Palanka, Serbia), Juan Coffi (Jr., Barcelona, Spain) plus freshman Ryo Kobayashi (Kanagawa, Japan), all scored 10 points on Wednesday.
Bridgeport forced 24 UDC turnovers on the night and scored 33 points off those mistakes, and the UB bench outscored the Firebirds' non-starters by a 58-30 margin.
Up next, the UB men's basketball travels to Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon to take on American International College in a non-conference clash. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
