Men's Hoops Sets New Single Game Scoring Record With 135-80 Victory At LIU Post
Eight Players Reach Double Figures On Record-Setting Night
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its fourth win in the last five games, as the Purple Knights never trailed, as the team breezed to a 135-80 East Coast Conference road victory over the host LIU Pioneers on Wednesday night. The 135 points scored a new single-game school record for the Purple Knights topping the previous mark of 132 points scored against Stonehill during the 1988-89 season. Bridgeport is now an even 9-9 overall and 4-4 in the ECC. The Pioneers remain winless on the season at 0-15 overall and 0-8 in conference play. Bridgeport has now surpassed the 100-point mark in scoring six times so far this season.
A whopping eight players reached double-figure scoring for UB on Wednesday led by junior Jose Pabon-Sanchez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 18 points.
Seniors Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) and Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) had 17 and 16 points respectively.
Sophomore Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) netted 12 points, and three Purple Knights, Jayden Iturmendi (Fr., York, Pa.), John Middleton (Jr., Atlantic City, N.J.) and Bakary Camara (Jr., Harlem, N.Y.), each had 11 points. Camara finished with a double-double grabbing 12 rebounds.
Hashem Abbas (So., Nablus, Palestine) was the final Bridgeport player in double digits with 10 points.
Senior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished just shy of a double-double for the winners with 11 rebounds and eight points.
The Purple Knights dominated the game inside all night long scoring 74 points in the paint and outrebounding the Pioneers, 68-40.
LIU Post's Alonso Ortiz-Traylor led all scores on the night with 34 points.
The UB men's basketball team in back in action at home on Saturday afternoon when they host NYIT in an East Coast Conference contest. Tip time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
