Total Team Effort Lifts Men's Basketball To Ninth Straight Triumph With A 103-69 Win Over LIU Post
Purple Knights Dominant Both Ends Of The Court To Up Their Overall Season Mark To 18-4
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team registered its ninth straight victory and upped its overall season record to 18-4 and its East Coast Conference mark to 11-1, as the Purple Knight posted a convincing 103-69 home win over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers (8-13, 6-5 ECC) on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym.
UB dominated the contest on both ends of the court, as on offense the hosts never trailed on the evening, as they surpassed the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season, and on defense, forced LIUP into 32 turnovers and held the visitors to a field goal percentage of only 33.9 % (20-of-59).
The Bridgeport scoring was incredibly balanced for netting 103 points on the night, as only two players, senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with a team-high 18 points and freshman Yasir Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) with 13 points, reached double figures. A total of eight other Purple Knights scored between nine and six points led by sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) and freshman Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine), who each had nine points for the winners.
Abbas led Bridgeport on the glass with five rebounds and Joseph added five steals; while junior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) dished off seven assists in a winning effort.
LIU Post's Jared Rivers led all scorers on the night with 20 points.
Up next, the Purple Knights will look to run their winning streak to double digits on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Long Island for an East Coast Conference game versus NYIT. Tip time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
