Senior Sharif Cobb Hits Game-Winning Three-Pointer To Lift UB Men's Basketball To A 77-76 Win At Roberts Wesleyan
Victory Runs Purple Knights Winning Streak To Seven Games
Rochester, N.Y.-Down 76-74 with 18 seconds to play, University of Bridgeport senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) drained a three-point shot with six seconds remaining in regulation to lift the visiting Purple Knights to a 77-76 East Coast Conference men's basketball victory over the host Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks in front of a large and raucous crowd of 1200. Cobb, who finished with 14 points on the night, went 6-of-9 from the floor, including hitting both of his three-point attempts. The victory is Bridgeport's seventh in a row, as UB moves to 16-4 overall and 9-1 in conference play so far this season. RWU is now 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the ECC.
Friday's affair was a game of runs as the Purple Knights led 30-23 with 5:06 reaming in the first half, only to see the host Redhawks close out the first 20 minutes of action on a 14-5 run to take a 37-35 lead at the half.
Roberts Wesleyan would take a 60-52 lead over the Purple Knights with 12:05 remaining in the second half, only to see the visitors storm back grab a 66-60 advantage with 8:22 left to play.
The Redhawks would then come back to take a 72-70 lead with 4:21 to go setting up a furious fight to the finish.
Freshman Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) lead all scorers on the night with 21 points of the UB bench, as he hit 10-of-14 field goals for the winners.
Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the Purple Knights' in double-digit scoring with 16 points.
