Men's Hoops Sees Four-Game Winning Streak Snapped At Daemen
Purple Knights Fall To Host Wildcats, 82-73
Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team led by as many as 15 points in the first half and by a score of 42-34 at halftime, but the visiting Purple Knights saw the host Daemen College Wildcats storm back to outscore the visitors, 48-31, in the second half to post an 82-73 East Coast Conference win on Thursday night in Western New York. UB is now 11-9 overall and 7-4 in conference play, as the team's four-game winning streak was snapped. Daemen ups its overall mark to 15-6, and the Wildcats are 9-4 in the ECC.
Senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 15 points, and he was joined in double figures by junior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 13 points and senior Stefano Osuji (Voorhees, N.J.) with 12 points. Benjamin also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds on the night.
Arif Mehmetaj led four Daemen players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 30 points, as he connected on 11-of-19 field goals.
Daemen dominated the game at the free line hitting 20-of-22 from the stripe; while the Purple Knights only went to the foul line a total of five times during the 40-minute contest, going 3-for-5.
The host Wildcats also committed only five turnovers on the night.
The UB men's basketball team will be right back in action on Friday night at Roberts Wesleyan College. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
