Six Players Reach Double-Digit Scoring As UB Men's Basketball Tops LIU Post, 100-91
Montana Mayfield And Muhammed Ahmed Led Purple Knights' Scoring Parade, As They Each Net 17 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Six players reached double-digit scoring as the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team got back in the win column on Wednesday night with key, high-scoring, 100-91, East Coast Conference home victory over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers. UB is now 7-2 in conference play and 9-7 overall. LIU Post slips to 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the ECC.
Junior Montana Mayfield (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx, N.Y.) each had 17 points for the winners, and all 17 of Mayfield's points came in the second half, as he hit three, three-point shots and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. As a team, the Purple Knights hit 33-of-39 free throws on the night; while LIU Post went 25-of-33 from the foul line.
Rounding the UB six in double figures on Wednesday night were seniors Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) with 16 points, Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.), each with 13 points, and graduate student Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 11 points.
The Purple Knights also use the three-point shot to their advantage in the win connecting on 13-of-28 shots from distance; while the Pioneers were only 2-of-7 from behind the arc.
LIU Post's Jared Hall led all scorers on the night with 24 points in a losing effort.
Up next, the UB men begin a challenging five-game road trip with an ECC tilt at NYIT on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
