UB Pulls Away In Second Half To Post 94-85 ECC Men's Basketball Home Victory Over Daemen
Team Now Has Won Three Games in A Row
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its third straight victory, as the Purple Knights pulled away in the second half to post a 94-85 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting Daemen College Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. UB held a slim, two-point, 42-40, lead at the half, and trailed 49-44 with 17:07 to play, before pulling away for the win. The Purple Knights biggest lead of the day was a 14-point advantage, 84-70, with 5:04 to play. With the win, Bridgeport is now 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the ECC. Daemen is now 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
Senior guard Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led five Purple Knights in double-digit scoring with 25 points, 15 of which came in the first half. Elliott also grabbed seven rebounds and had one steal.
Classmate Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx, N.Y.) also eclipsed the 20-point plateau netting 21 points.
UB junior Montana Mayfield (Philadelphia, Pa.) had 13 points on the day, and he also dished off eight assists with no turnovers in the win.
Senior Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) with 12 points, and Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) with 10 points completed the Bridgeport quintet in double figures. Asamoah had a team-high eight rebounds on the afternoon.
Daemen's Torrence Dyck led all scorers in the game with 27 points.
The UB men's basketball team will now take the Holiday Break and return to the court on December 30 when they host Stonehill College in Hubbell Gym.
