Purple Knights Grind Out 69-51 Home Men's Basketball Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
Team Records Back-To-Back Wins For the First Time This Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-For the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team has put together back-to-back victories, as the Purple Knights ground out a 69-51 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Friday night in Hubbell Gym. Bridgeport never trailed on the night, as the team ups its overall record to 3-5 and its ECC mark to 2-1. RWC slips to 3-5 overall and remains winless in conference play at 0-2.
Senior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) led Bridgeport and all players in scoring with 14 points on the night, and he also added seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
Classmates Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) and Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) also reached double figures netting 13 and 12 points respectively. Jones chipped in four rebounds, two assists and two steals for the winners, and Asamoah fell just shy of a double-double grabbing a game-high nine rebounds, plus he contributed four assists.
Bridgeport senior Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx, N.Y.) had a strong night scoring eight points with eight rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.
Zack Panebianco led Roberts Wesleyan with 13 points on the night.
The UB men's basketball team will look to run its winning streak to three games on Sunday when they host the Wildcats of Daemen College in East Coast Conference action. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
