Men's Hoops Falters In ECC Opener At LIU Post, 62-54, As Ice Cold Shooting Night Proves Too Much To Overcome
Devon Elliott Finishes With A Double-Double Scoring 15 Points And Grabbing 11 Rebounds
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team held a 32-28 lead at the half, but the host LIU Post Pioneers outscored the visitors, 34-22 in the final 20 minutes of action to notch a 62-54 East Coast Conference win on Wednesday night. The Purple Knights are now 1-5 overall and LIUP raises its overall record to 6-2 and ups its ECC record to 2-0. Wednesday night was Bridgeport's 2015-16 conference opener.
Bridgeport was plagued by cold shooting all night, as the Purple Knights shot only 25.9 percent (15 of 58) from the floor and 55.0 percent (22 of 40) from the foul line.
Senior Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led UB with 15 points and finished with a double-double grabbing 11 rebounds, and classmate Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx, N.Y.) added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Bridgeport's Eddie Asamoah (Sr., Calgary, Alberta, Canada) had 10 boards on the night.
LIU Post's Jared Hall led all scorers on the night with 20 points.
The UB men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column when they host NYIT at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Hubbell Gym.
