Purple Knights Nip Bentley, 89-86, For First Men's Basketball Win Of 2015-16 Season
Five UB Players Reach Double Figures In The Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2015-16 season at home on Saturday afternoon with an 89-86 victory over the visiting Bentley University Falcons. UB is now 1-2 overall, and Bentley suffers its first loss of the year, as the Falcons are now 3-1.
The Purple Knights trailed 44-41 at the half, but the hosts battled back to take a nine-point, 75-66, lead with 5:23 to play; however the visiting Falcons would come back to grab a 78-77 lead with 3:04 to play on a three-pointer by Alex Furness.
Bridgeport's Jesse Jones (Sr., Irvington, N.J.), who led his team with 25 points on the day, gave the Purple Knights a 79-78 lead with 2;16 to play before Furness would again put the visitors in front by one with a hoop at the 1:53 mark.
UB would take an 82-80 lead which they would never relinquish when senior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) hit a three-point shot with 1:41 to play. Rouse finished with 14 points on the day for the winners.
Joining Jones and Rouse in double-digit scoring for Bridgeport were seniors Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points, Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 points and Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) with 12 points. Ahmed led the Purple Knights with seven rebounds.
Freshman D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) played a fine game for UB dishing out nine assists, grabbing five boards and making two steals.
Bentley's Tyler McFarland finished as the game's leading scorer and rebounding notching a double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds.
