Bridgeport, Conn.-Trailing 64-63 with 5:27 to play in the game, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team put the game away with a spirited 14-0 run take a 77-64 lead with 1:28 to go, as the Purple Knights topped the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 82-71, in East Coast Conference play on Sunday afternoon. With the win, UB, winners of four games in a row and 11 of their last 12 outings, is now 13-4 overall and 9-1 in conference play. QC slips to 3-14 overall and 3-7 in the ECC.
Senior Willie Williams III (Norwalk, Conn.) lead a balanced Purple Knights scoring attack which saw five players reach double figures with a game-high 24 points, as he connected on 10 of 13 field goals. On the afternoon, Bridgeport shot 56.9 % (29-of-51) from the floor.
Joining Williams in double digits were juniors Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 17 points, Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) had a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) chipped in 13 off the UB bench and Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) with 10 points.
Jeremiah Mordi led four Queens' players in double figures with 16 points.
