Long-Range Shooting Helps UB Men To Seventh Win A Row, 87-74 Victory At Roberts Wesleyan
Purple Knights Connect On 12 of 19 Three-Pointers
Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its seventh win in a row on Friday night, as the Purple Knights connected on 12 of 19 three-point shots (63.2 %), on their way to an 87-74 road East Coast Conference victory over the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. UB is now 9-3 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play at 5-0. RWC is now 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights, who led 35-31 at the half, opened the second 20 minutes of play on a 20-6 run to grab a 55-37 lead which they never relinquished. The closest the Redhawks would come down the stretch was a six-point deficit, 73-67, with 1:55 to go in the game.
UB junior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) led four Purple Knights in double-digit scoring with 27 points, as he connected on 8-of10 field goals, including going 5-of-6 from behind the three-point arc.
Rouse was joined in double figures by classmate Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 18 points, as he hit 6-of-8 field goals as he went 4-for-4 from three-point range. Junior Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) contributed 17 points of the Bridgeport bench, and senior Willie Williams III (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
Senior guard Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) grabbed a game-best 10 boards for UB.
Isaac Medeiros led three Roberts Wesleyan players in double figures with 18 points.
The UB men's basketball team is right back in action tomorrow as they travel to Daemen College for an ECC contest that will tip-off at 3:00 p.m. in Amherst, N.Y.
