UB Men's Hoops Reamains Unbeaten In Conference Play With 77-64 Win Over Mercy
Purple Knights Now Hit The Road For Five Straight Contests
Bridgeport, Conn.-All five starters reached double figures in scoring as the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play with a 77-64 home win over the visiting Mercy College Mavericks on Saturday in Hubbell Gym. UB is now 5-3 overall and 3-0 in conference action. The Purple Knights have also won three games in a row and five of their last six outings. Mercy is now 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
Junior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport attack with 18 points, and he also had five assists on the afternoon. Classmate Bryce Elie (Queens, N.Y.) was next on the UB scoring list with 13 points.
Senior Willie Williams III (Norwalk, Conn.) had a double-double for the winners netting 12 points and grabbing a game-high 12 boards.
Rounding out the double-digit scorers for the Purple Knights were senior Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with 12 points, and junior Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 10 points.
On the afternoon, the Purple Knights hit 50 percent of the field goals (27-of-54) and outrebounded the Mavericks 40-35.
Mercy's Tyseem Lyles led all scorers on the day with 22 points.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team opens up a five-game road trip at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. in New Haven. UB's next home game will be on Wednesday, January 14 versus the University of the District of Columbia.
