UB Men Hold On For An 86-84 Home Win Over LIU Post In 2014-15 ECC Basketball Opener
Ernest Rouse Nets A Game-High 28 Points For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn. – Junior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) scored a game-high 28 points, 22 of which came in the first half, as the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team opened its 2014-15 East Coast Conference schedule with a tight, 86-84, home win over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers on Wednesday night. UB is now 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the ECC. The Pioneers are also an even 3-3 overall and are 0-1 in conference action.
The Purple Knights held a 50-44 lead at the half, as they shot a blistering 65.4 percent from the floor (17 of 26) in the opening 20 minutes of action. Bridgeport fans held their collective breaths at the end of play when a potential game-winning three point shot by the Pioneers' P.J. Torres fell off the rim to give UB the victory. Torres led LIU Post in scoring with 25 on the night.
Rouse was joined in double-digit scoring for Bridgeport by juniors Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 17 points, and Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) and Bryce Elie (Queens, N.Y.) each with 12 points. Elie led the Purple Knights on the glass with seven rebounds.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College for a 3:30 p.m. ECC tilt. The Purple Knights are back in the friendly confines of Hubbell Gym on Saturday, December 13 when they host Mercy College in another conference contest at 3:00 p.m.
