Red-Hot First Half Helps Men's Hoops To Key 83-68 ECC Victory Over LIU Post
Purple Knights Have Now Won Five Games In A Row
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team, playing the squad's fourth game in six days, did not show any signs of fatigue, as the Purple Knights rode a hot-shooting first half that saw UB grab a 51-30 halftime lead, to a key 83-68 home East Coast Conference win over the LIU Post Pioneers. During the first 20 minutes of play, Bridgeport connected on 21 of 32 field goals (65.6 %), including going 9 of 15 from behind the three-point arc. With the victory, UB is now 13-9 overall and 11-5 in the ECC. The Pioneers are now 14-9 overall and 9-6 in conference play. The Purple Knights are also now on a five-game winning streak.
Bridgeport senior guard JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lead all scorers on the night with 18 points. Swift also had seven assists and three steals for the winners. Four other Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring, as junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) was just shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, sophomore Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) chipped in 13 points off the UB bench, and junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) each had 10 points. Brown also had six assists and three steals.
Dillon Burns and Tyuan Williams led the Pioneers in scoring, as they each had 15 points. LIUP's Vaughn Allen amassed a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Purple Knights will now hit the road for a three-game trip that will open on Long Island versus NYIT on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
