Double-Double By Ivan Simic Helps UB Men Post Fourth Straight Win, 81-60, Over UDC
Purple Knights Will Now Host LIU Post In Key ECC Tilt On Wednesday Night In Hubbell Gym
Washington, D.C.-Senior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) notched a double-double scoring a team-high 17 points, as he connected on 8-of-10 field goals, and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds to help lead the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to its fourth straight win, as the Purple Knight topped the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds in East Coast Conference action on Monday evening. With the win, UB is now 12-9 overall and 10-5 in conference play. UDC falls to 3-17 overall and 1-13 in the ECC.
In the first half, the Purple Knights got off to a quick start building a 28-11 lead with 11:54 to go in the frame, but the Firebirds would fight back to trail only by two, 41-39, at the half.
Trailing 46-45 with 17:02 to play, Bridgeport would put the game away with a 20-3 run which gave the Purple Knights a 65-48 lead with 11:53 remaining in the contest. After that, the closest UDC would come to Bridgeport in the game would be a nine-point deficit.
Simic was joined in double-figure scoring by junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) with 15 points, senior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) with 14 points and senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted 11 points and dished out six assists for the winners.
UDC's Prince Ritson led all scorers on the night with 18 points.
Up next for the Bridgeport men is a key East Conference contest on Wednesday night at home, when UB hosts the LIU Post Pioneers. Game time in Hubbell Gym is slated for 7:00 p.m.
