Bridgeport Men Pick Up Big 98-58 ECC Home Win Over Mercy
Purple Knights Have Now Won Three Games In A Row
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its third straight victory on Saturday afternoon as the Purple Knights posted an impressive 98-58 home East Coast Conference win over the Mercy College Mavericks. Every Bridgeport player that entered the game on Saturday had at least two points, as the Purple Knights shot the ball extremely well hitting 54.3 percent (38 of 70) of their field goals, including going 9 of 19 (47.4%) from beyond the three-point arc and connecting on 13 of 15 free throws (86.7 %). UB raises its overall record to 11-9, and the Purple Knights are 9-5 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 2-19 overall and 2-13 in conference action.
UB dominated the glass in the game outrebounding the Mavericks by a 46-29 margin, and Mercy's 58 points on the day are the lowest point total allowed in a single game by the Purple Knights this season.
Junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) was a force in the paint again for Bridgeport falling just shy of a double-double in only 19 minutes on the court netting a game-high 15 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Berry also had three assists and one steal for the winners.
Berry was joined in double-digit scoring by senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 12 points and junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 11 points.
Senior Herschel Howell (Bronx, N.Y.) had a strong game off the UB bench netting nine points. Also making big contributions off the Bridgeport bench in the victory were senior Curtis Loving (Harlem, N.Y.) with eight points, junior Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with eight points, six rebounds and three assists, sophomore Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) with eight points and eight rebounds plus junior Adam Glantz (Helsginborg, Sweden) chipped in six points. The Purple Knights' bench netted 45 of the team's 98 points on the afternoon.
Olajide Keshinro led the Mavericks with 13 points and six rebounds.
The Bridgeport men will look for their fourth consecutive win on Monday night when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the University of the District of Columbia. Tip-off is slated for approximately 7:00 p.m.
