UB's Sean Berry Leads All Scorers On The Afternoon With 23 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Four of the team's five starters reached double-digit scoring and a strong second half that saw the team score 52 points and shoot a blistering 68.2 percent (15 of 22) from the floor helped lift the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to an 89-69 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting Queens College Knights on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Purple Knights are now an even 9-9 overall on the season and move to 7-5 in conference action. QC slips to 4-15 overall and 4-9 in the ECC.
Junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) had another fine outing for UB leading all scorers in the game with 23 points, and he grabbed seven rebounds and blocked one shot.
Joining Berry in double-figure scoring were teammates senior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) and junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who each netted 15 points, and senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points. Brown also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Sophomore Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) fell just shy of double figures scoring eight points on the afternoon.
Jeremiah Mordi led three Queens' players in double figure with 19 points.
Next, UB will travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30 pm. The team's next home game will take place on Saturday, February 8 versus Mercy College; tip off set for 3:00 pm.
