UB Posts Impressive 88-64 Home Win Over ECC Men's Basketball Leader Dowling College
Purple Knights Never Trailed On The Night And Outrebounded DC By A 58-25 Margin
Bridgeport, Conn.–The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team never trailed in the game as the Purple Knights posted an impressive 88-64 win over the East Coast Conference-leading Dowling College Golden Lions on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym. With the win, Bridgeport is now 8-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Dowling is now 15-4 overall, and the Golden Lions sit atop the ECC standings at 9-2.
UB dominated the night in most facets of the game connecting on 50.8 percent of its field goals (30 of 59) to Dowling's 29.7 field goal percentage (19 of 64). Bridgeport ruled the glass outrebounding the Golden Lions by a whopping 58-25 margin. The Purple Knights did commit 22 turnovers to Dowling's 12, and DC had one more steal, a six to five edge, on the night.
Senior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) led Bridgeport in scoring on the night with 19 points, as he went a perfect six-for-six from the floor including hitting three-of-three three-point shots, plus Simic was four-for-four from the foul line. Ivan fell just shy of a double-double grabbing nine rebounds.
Teammate Sean Berry (Jr., Irvington, N.J.) dominated the paint recording a double-double with 17 points, and Berry had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) with 12 points, and junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 points rounded out the Purple Knights' double-digit scorers in the victory.
Bridgeport junior Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had a fine evening off the UB bench netting eight points, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out three assists and making three steals. Senior Curtis Loving (Harlem, N.Y.) also had a quality game for the Purple Knights grabbing eight boards and scoring five points in a reserve role.
Leon Taylor led the Golden Lions with 17 points on the night.
Bridgeport is back in action on Thursday night at Molloy College in a key ECC contest that is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. UB then returns home on Saturday to face Queens (N.Y.) College. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
