UB Survives ECC Men's Basketball Tussle With Roberts Wesleyan, 72-68
Purple Knights Move To 5-3 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn. – Senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a team-high 19 points and classmate Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) added 17 points to help the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team survive a scrappy group of Robert Wesleyan College Redhawks, as the Purple Knights prevailed, 72-68, in an East Coast Conference contest on Friday night. The Redhawks, who trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half and were down 39-25 at halftime, came back to tie the game at 66-66 with 1:51 to play on a jumper by Issac Medeiros. Mederios led all scorers on the night with 24 points, and he notched a double-double grabbing 13 rebounds. UB would then take the lead for good, 69-66, on the next possession with 1:36 to go when sophomore Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) buried a three-point shot off an assist from Swift.
Senior Curtis Loving (Harlem, N.Y.) led Bridgeport on the glass with seven rebounds, and he also chipped in eight points.
Patrick Downer also had a double-double for Roberts Wesleyan scoring 11 points and adding 10 rebounds.
UB finishes up its hom3stand with a game tomorrow, Saturday January 18 versus ECC newcomers Daemen College. Tip-off set for 4:00 pm.
