Men's Basketball Takes Hard-Fought 84-75 ECC Road Win Over NYIT
Victory Ups Team's Winning Streak To Nine
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team returned to the court after a one week layoff forced by the Blizzard of 2013, and the Purple Knights showed no ill effects from the time off as UB upped its winning streak to nine and won for the thirteenth time in its last fourteen outings picking up a hard-fought 84-75 East Coast Conference victory over the host New York Institute of Technology Bears on Wednesday night. The Purple Knights are now 16-8 overall and 12-2 in conference play. NYIT is now 15-9 overall and 9-5 in the ECC.
Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led UB on the night scoring 19 points and falling just one rebound shy of a double-double grabbing nine boards. David also had five assists and two steals for the winners. He is also now just 34 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points during his two seasons in a UB uniform.
Darian was joined in double-digit scoring by junior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who contributed 16 points off the Purple Knights' bench, and senior Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia), each scored 13 points.
Kavyon Roberts led the Bears with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, and Azel Prather Jr. also had a double-double for NYIT with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The UB men will look to run their winning streak 10 when they host Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon in the Park City. Tip-off in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
